Welcome to the Sentinel Kiwanis Club!
Kiwanis club members believe in service. They care about children. They are interested in the community around them because the community matters to them. They are people like you. Friends. Neighbors. Volunteers who want to make a difference. They love to see the difference they make when they work together. We meet every Thursday morning at 7:30 a.m. at Missoula Country Club.
As a new member, we hope that you will become an active member of the club. As an introduction to Sentinel Kiwanis, we encourage you to participate in the following activities:
- Attend a Board of Directors meeting
- Introduce yourself to the club during the Spotlight portion of our weekly meeting
- Serve as a greeter at a weekly meeting
- Bring a guest or suggest a speaker for a meeting
- Serve on a committee
COMMITTEES:
AWARDS - Compile yearly calendar of award due dates including George Hixson Fellowship, Snell Award, Bob Small Sentinel Kiwanian of the Year Award and the Lyle Heath/Lisa Mecklenberg Jackson Volunteer of the Year award, solicit candidates for awards, update list of historic club award winners,
COMMUNITY SERVICE - Identify projects for club involvement, either through direct funding or member participation.
FUNDRAISING - Identify fundraising opportunities for the club. Coordinate fundraising activities of the club.
HOUSE -Provide the most effective club meeting through early set-up and greeting of members and guests including organizing greeters, taking meal payments, coordinating weekly drawings and maintaining contact with the Missoula Country Club.
INTERCLUB - Coordinate attendance to periodic interclub meetings.
MARKETING AND PUBLIC RELATIONS - Promote our club on Facebook and Instagram account for club, update club brochures, assist secretary in getting images on our Webpage and the District Webpage.
MEMBERSHIP - Coordinate recruitment of new members and retention of existing members through education programs and special events, update new member packet to be handed out at meetings, make recommendations to board on new member applications, coordinate induction of new members, coordinate "Spotlights" for new members.
PROGRAM - Provide the most effective and engaging meeting possible by selecting program topics and arranging for speakers, communicating with club about upcoming speakers, introducing speakers, thanking speakers, and managing IT for speakers.
SPONSORED LEADERSHIP PROGRAMS - Provide support for Hellgate Key Club, Loyola Sacred Heart Key Club, Florence Key Club and St. Joseph Builders Club, serve as liaison between Key Clubs and Builders Club and Sentinel Kiwanis, solicit candidates for the Howard Schmid Memorial scholarship.
We raise funds annually using several methods. During the summer and fall, we park cars for Logjam Productions for their shows at the Kettlehouse Amphitheater in Bonner. We also sell apples and pears in the fall. Additionally, we raise money by operating a brat stand during the Missoula Downtown Association Brew Fest in May and serving as greeters and ambassadors during the Western Montana Fair. These fundraising projects are administered by the Fundraising Committee.
Every other week, the members of Sentinel Kiwanis have the option to purchase a chance to win the 50-50 drawing. The cost of a single ticket is $1.00 or you can purchase nine tickets for $5.00. The winning number receives one-half of the pot. The remaining portion of the pot supports Destiny School in Kampala, Uganda, Africa. The annual dues for Sentinel Kiwanis are:
